i know that i am not the only mama with wild & crazy mornings. you know what i am talking about. the mad dash of getting all the rascals up. dressed. groomed. fed. and out the door with all their belongings. for a happy & punctual school drop off. those mornings can be, eh, a bear.
now don’t get me wrong. some mornings are great right? everyone wakes up in happy moods. everything is just easy. things go seamlessly. and those mornings are glorious.
but lets be honest. most mornings are a bit of a frenzy. maybe its oversleeping. maybe its a grumpy kiddo. or a grumpy mama. maybe its a lost shoe. or a spilled cup of oj. whatever it is. it can foul up the morning in a hot minute. making the school send off a bit sour.
we do not want those mornings. our kiddos do not want those mornings. and none of us deserve those mornings. so we are going to stop that runaway train & take steps to make our mornings more peaceful & simplified for the entire family.
a few years back i decided that i would start waking up at least 30 minutes before the kiddos. this set my morning off on a much better note. giving me quiet minutes to drink coffee & sit in stillness. honestly its a game changer. i highly encourage you to do so.
but i noticed that even when i started my morning off on the right foot. it could still go awry. honestly. it is usually because we cannot find the matching sock that the rascal wants. or we forgot on lonely sneaker at grandmas house the night before. ugh. and that is not an easy pill to swallow at 7 in the morning. not for him. not for me.
but when i really looked at the situation. i was setting us up for this little battles over little socks. the lack of prep. the lack of organization. it was setting us up for these little pitfalls. i could do better as a mom. helping the rascals learn how to get organized in advance. and alleviate much of that early morning stress.
insert: prebagged uniforms.
game. freaking. changer.
as a family we all come together on sunday evenings & prep our uniform bags for the next five days. we gather all of our shorts, shirts, underwear, socks, and masks for everyday of the upcoming school week. we assemble them & zip them into gallon size bags with respective names on them. we put those babies into the dresser drawers & we are set for the school week. no missing socks. no searches for a loose mask. we are set.
in the mornings the boys simply grab a bag with their name on it & they have all they need to get dressed. head to toe.
they are content. mama is content.
they are learning the value of organization & prep work. mama is satisfied with their independence of getting ready on their own. it is a win-win.
the boys feel sort of empowered when they have everything they need. in bags they put together. a sense of pride that they can do this on their own. i love it so much.
gang. it may seem like extra work at the end of a busy weekend. but i an promise you it will save you many tears & meltdowns in the mornings.
here is to making our mornings peaceful & seamless.
now go order your gallon size bags & get to stuffing, mama.
