i am not keeping my secret to pms relief. not anymore.
alright girls. we all get it. we all hate it. the dreaded pms.
but there are remedies that can give you relief from pms symptoms. in this blog post, i share some of my favorite ways to feel better when pms mood swings strike.
honestly, i don’t mind the actual period part of it each month. it’s the pms that really gets to me. ugh. it’s just the complete pits. the emotions, anxiety, cravings. the irritability. am i right?
so i am just going to cut to the chase here. i tried for well over a decade to remedy the dreaded pms with popcorn and chocolate. buckets full. while it gave a momentary reprieve… it certainly wasn’t working any magic on those pesky hormones.
it wasn’t until about 6 months ago that i created the perfect little pms relief cocktail to help minimize the pms dread. and i’ll be darned gang. it really really does help. it doesn’t rid of pms completely. but i noticed a significant improvement.
so hear me out. i was chatting with my therapist kim. she has chatted me through years and years of ups and downs. honestly, everybody needs a kim. if you do not have a therapist you are missing out on so much. but we will talk about that another day…
so kim and i are chatting. and i was explaining to her that my anxiety gets much worse for about 8-10 days before my period actually arrives. she explained to me that fish oil has shown to really help women with pms symptoms.
get this. women in asian countries do not experience severe pms because they consume such great amounts of omegas in their diets. so she suggested that i double up on my fish oil the week before my period.
additionally, evening primrose has been shown to alleviate anxiety in women. so she suggested i add that in too. much to my delight. that evening i found omegas with evening primrose. kim is always right. she knows her stuff. (i immediately signed up for monthly subscription of these pms relieving pills)
kim also explained that sometimes a dip in progesterone can cause anxiety. sure enough. ran some blood work and what did we find. in the second half of my cycle my progesterone dips and my estrogen is very high. the doctor prescribed a progesterone cream to rub on my arms for the 2 weeks before my period arrives.
(while you can simply order the omega and primrose online, you will obviously need to talk with your doctor about progesterone. i am simply telling you what has helped me. i am not a doctor. just speaking from experience here)
those two additions. and my handy little good patch: period have really spared me from elevated oms symptoms. i call it my pms rescue and it does just that.
you do not have to suffer through anything. pay attention. be aware. be your best advocate. ask your doctors questions. try things to help you. you’ll always end up with some sort of success.
for me, the winning combo is the good patch. progesterone cream. omega with evening primrose. this has helped minimize pms anxiety for me in a big way. maybe it will work for you too!
